drifting

today felt unusual.

for one, i dressed all in black by mistake
and had leftover eyeliner on from the play.

i looked like an emo kid.

but besides that, today i felt different mentally.

more observant,
more thoughtful.

suddenly i had the aching urge to watch the clouds
and what a time to have the urge:

they were like a ballet,
drifting through the sky like a choreographed
performance.

there was a point when all of the clouds in the entire sky
seemed to be orbiting around a single splotch of blue.
there were separate rings of clouds, each a different shade
of gray
or off-white.

then one group of clouds started to move in over the blue,
as if trying to smother it
block it.

those clouds seemed almost sinister,
despite their luminescent white colouring.

but as the clouds consumed the empty sky,
they uncovered another patch farther east in the atmosphere.

the clouds tried to take over one patch of sky
and the expense of releasing another patch.

then the whole swatch of clouds
was blown westward, out of sight from my window.
and this left the entire sky clear from where i sat.

and this just hit me as something so big,
so important,
so true.

and i fully realized
three
extremely
vital
things.

one: sometimes the looks of something can betray its true intentions

two: the consequences of an action aren't always what you'd expect

and three: no matter how cloudy a situation is, there's a patch of blue somewhere out there,
waiting.
